Estevan Medina was 28 years old when he accepted the idea of death. It was 2008, and he was hospitalized because his organs had shut down after years of alcohol and drug abuse. He said he had picked up some bad habits while living a gang lifestyle in Colorado Springs. One night, the nurses brought another patient into his room. The roommate died and a nurse turned to Medina and said, "You're next." He felt helpless. So did his wife, Lisa. "I think through the whole time of them diagnosing him and prognosing him, saying that he only had a 5 percent chance to live with three months, they were kind of preparing him for the worst, which was death, because they said there was no hope," she said....
